Cardi B Arrested, Charged Over Strip Club Fight In New York

Popular rapper Cardi B turned herself in to the police on Monday, October 1, in New York, where she was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors in connection with a strip club fight in August.

TMZ reports that the Bronx rapper handed herself into the NYPD after allegedly instigating a fight at Angels Strip Club in Queens on August 29.

The 25-year-old star was in the Angels Strip Club in Queens on that day when someone in her group lobbed furniture inside the night club, causing an employee to suffer “some bruising to her legs,” police said.

The former reality star, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, is accused of ordering members of her entourage to attack two of the club’s bartenders – sisters Jade and Baddie Gi – using bottles and furniture.

She faces charges that include two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment and one count of third-degree assault, according to Sergeant Brendan Ryan, a spokesman for the New York Police Department.

All three charges are considered misdemeanours in New York.

The rapper, who was photographed leaving a police station in Queens shortly after she arrived, was accompanied by her lawyer and nine other suspects, who also turned themselves over to authorities.

Upon arrival, Cardi was placed under arrest, taken to a holding cell, processed and then released. She has to appear in Queens criminal court on October 29.

“Miss Almanzar was very compliant during her arrest process and answered all questions,” Ryan said.

The musician will be formally charged at her October 29 court appearance, a spokesperson for the Queens District Attorney’s office said Monday, adding that changes to the charges could be made then.

Lawyer Joe Tacopina, who said he represents the two bartenders, said in a statement that:

“Cardi B ordered and committed violent assaults against my clients, and is being called to justice for her crimes. Apparently, she thinks her celebrity status puts her above the law.”

He added: “But reality is setting in, as justice does not care whether her name is Cardi B or Carly B, and she will now answer for her crimes.”
