Ed Sheeran Announced as First Headliner of Sziget 2019
Global pop icon Ed Sheeran has today been announced as the first headliner for Sziget Festival 2019.
Sziget began in 1993 in Budapest, Hungary, as a rock festival mainly for local students, but has since turned into one of the world’s biggest and most iconic international music events, and is increasingly labelled as Europe’s answer to Nevada’s Burning Man Festival.
Despite a famously varied lineup, there has been an increased focus on pop acts in the past five years, with artists such as Dua Lipa and Shawn Mendes joining the likes of The Arctic Monkeys and Kendrick Lamar as 2018’s headliners.
Today is the first artists announcement for Sziget 2019, and bills British pop icon Ed Sheeran for the opening night of the festival, which will be their 26th edition.
2017 was a record-breaking year for Teddy, with his third album ÷ named the biggest of the year and featuring more Top 10 hits than any other record in UK chart history, and this festival announcement hints that 2019 will be another important year for the nation’s favourite redhead.
