In a year where tragedy was the order of the day as we went from one pandemic to the other, it would come as a surprise some good found its way to make headlines through the emergence of new amazing music acts globally especially Nigeria which is the focal point of this write-up.

The music industry in Nigeria has been met with major reception from far and wide and its progress has been nothing short of laudable and we could attribute some of its success to the constant emergence of fresh sounds from the pool of infinite talent the music industry has been blessed with.

There are numerous notable names to highlight but we’d be discussing the Current Top 5 New Artistes in Nigeria to emerge in the year 2020.

5- Emo Grae

Emo Grae

Emo Grae is a fast rising Song writer and recording Artiste who recently got signed to Marlian Music label imprint by the popular singer, Naira Marley.

The promising music artiste waste no time to kick off his music career with his first single under Marlian Music imprint tagged “0903” which features Spaceship Entertainment new kid, Buju. The song which has garnered many listening ears with its Afropop in-tuned sound.

4- Buju

A soundcloud sensation as far back as 2018 rose to prominence after a remix to his viral release “spiritual” which featured zlatan ibile, finally struck gold with his 2019 single “Lenu” which drew the attention of the “African Giant” Burna Boy earning him a place in Burna’s flagship record label “Spaceship Entertainment” and also a remix to “Lenu” featuring burna which went on to become a fans favourite with laudable numbers on major media platforms.

He’s been on several collaborations since then, including the amazing collaboration with Emo Grae on the “0903” hit single.

3- Olakira

Olakira born September 1990 in Ogun state, Nigeria came into limelight in 2018 with his love song “Hey lover” which was an internet sensation at the time finally rose to his prime in 2020 with his hit single “In My Maserati” which has been doing amazing numbers on several media platforms with over 1.6million views on YouTube alone.

“In My Maserati” which was released sometime in June has grown to become one of the biggest song in the country securing massive airplay’s nationwide also has Davido on the remix which is yet to be released and with the promise of bigger projects to come after that.

2- Tems

Temilade Openiyi known by her stagename Tems, a nigerian alté R&B singer/songwriter/ producer, could be regarded as a breath of fresh air, a break from the norm as her sound is nothing short of soothing and unique. She rose to prominence after her well accepted single “Try Me” which garnered over 2million + views on YouTube alone.

She’s one of the most sought after female act in the country at the moment with international collaboration with “Khalid” and notable singles like “Mr rebel”, “Looku Looku” etc to her name and we do expect more amazing sounds from her as she’s set to soon release her EP titled “Damages”.

1- Omah Lay

Stanley Omah Didia (born May 19 1997) popularly known as Omah Lay is a singer and songwriter. He is arguably the biggest emergence from the Nigerian music scene this year, so big, he succeeded in giving the big guns a run for their money from the laudable success his hit single “You” and debut EP “Get layd” garnered on all media platforms like a thief in the night.

With his “Get Layd” EP, Omah Lay also bagged Apple Music Debut Africa Rising Star in August this year, this new kid has crept into our hearts and stole them without the intention of returning them anytime soon as he’s set to drop follow up projects in no time, what do we say but “WATCH THIS SPACE”.
